An Ode to Honey
Delicous Honey from Honey TasmaniaIt is no secret that I love honey. Friends and family have a running joke about the amount of honey I bring home from my annual trip to Tasmania but I don't hear anyone complaining about the honey gifts they receive. Instead the beautiful golden pots are greeted with sounds of delight.

I love honey for not only the flavours when I gobble down a teaspoon of it but also how it enhances my cooking. Plus, it's good for you!

So here are 5 great ways of enjoying your honey:

1. It's great in cooking with that little secret surprise of sweetness. So instead of adding sugar to recipes I add honey to sweeten and flavour for my version of spaghetti bolognese, roast lamb, meat balls, the list goes on. I'll confess to not being the best at following recipes. They are really simply a form of inspiration when cooking. Ok, they don't always turn out as well as hoped for but I haven't had one fail yet that's included honey.

2. It's great on toast for a mid morning or afternoon pick me up. That touch of sweetness that's healthy for you rather than loaded with bad types of calories.

3. Being high in antioxidants it's also good for helping get over colds and other nasty bugs. Honey makes for great comfort food when feeling crap. I've learnt to make a honey and thyme tea for those nasty sore throats - it takes away the sting and helps heal.

4. I like mixing honey with my green tea - a double whammy of antioxidants that's good for the system any day of the week.

5. One of my favourite past times is propagating garden plants and honey on the tips of the new stems going into the planting mix gives the new little plants a great start.

I think I'll go and have a little tea spoon full of honey now!
