5 tips for Video Marketing

Meet Vicki Bobotis - presenter of the She Inspires Social Media Seminars on how to use videos to promote your business We caught up with Vicki Bobotis to find out what inspires her, how she has grown a successful business doing what she loves and her top 5 tips for making videos work to promote your business.

What do you enjoy about having your own business with Video Works Productions?

I love that I get exposure to all types of industries. Everything from fashion to finance, builders and charity organisations. 

We've filmed events featuring incredible speakers that I may have never seen otherwise. Amanda Gore, Carren Smith and Lyn White are just a few of the highlights for me.

Who makes up the Video Works Production team?

My business partner and Creative/Marketing Director of Video Works Productions is Matthew Urmenyhazi. We originally met while working at Foxtel and have been in business for the last 3 years. We also have producers, camera and sound crew from the broadcast industry who have worked on feature films and local and international tv channels all over the world.    

Who inspires you?

I absolutely love seeing people succeed. Not only in business but in life. 

What really inspires me is watching people who are living their purpose. I had the pleasure of working with Dr John Demartini and Dale Beaumont on a shoot to promote one of their seminars. There was no preparing scripts, no second takes, we just asked the questions and they answered. They are doing what they love and are meant to be doing. 

Do you feel you find a good work/life balance? What works for you?

I don't know of many business owners who can switch off completely and I certainly fit into that category. 

The easiest way for me to switch off is to step away from my Mac. I am happy to report that I can finally watch a movie or a tv program these days without thinking about the production side of things. It took me a while but I finally got there!

You have created a very good reputation for yourself, what do you think is key to achieving this?

Firstly, thank you! I don't have any secrets, I guess our work speaks for itself. I always want to get the best result for our clients and love working with them.   

You've worked with a lot of high profile performers and groups, who did you find the most inspiring and rewarding to work with?

I've had a very fortunate and entertaining career that's for sure! To be honest, some of the most inspiring and rewarding moments have been filming people who haven't had the media recognition they deserve.

We recently filmed one of our clients conducting a community based workshop on the art of effective public speaking. The workshop was delivered to a group of teens. Watching these kids face their fears and take to the stage at the end was amazing. I wish I had a few more tissues!
As far as celebrities or rock stars go, I'd have to say interviewing Bono from U2 was pretty rewarding too.

What do you love about having your own business?

As a producer I have to be organised and scheduling is a huge part of that so I'm lucky that it comes naturally to me.  

What has been the most challenging experience of having your own business?

Not knowing what you don't know. I've come to terms with that one though! 

Working on the business instead of in the business is always a challenge but I'm getting better at scheduling that in. 

Make your content marketing work for your business

Do you take a video camera away on holidays?

Yes and I always have good intentions to use it but rarely do. After our last holiday I made the decision not to take the camera with us anymore. I'm content with happy snaps and filming on my iPhone instead. 

Do you have a favourite social media platform or combination?

I once a 'slight' addiction to Facebook but I took a step back while we were developing Video Works Productions. I am a bit excited to be back online and using Twitter and LinkedIn too.

What are your 5 tips for using videos to promote a business effectively online?

  1. Have a professional video on your website.
  2. Treat it like your shopfront.Brand your videos
  3. Produce a free video series to educate your audience.
  4. Record a video as your newsletter instead typing one.
  5. Use your business name as your YouTube channel
