7. The fallen king of pop. Plagued by years of scandal - from molestation to disfiguring plastic surgery to baby over board - you could be forgiven for forgetting why Michael Jackson was famous in the first place. The memory of the former singing, moonwalking, sequined-glove-wearing superstar have all but been erased by the scandal that has surrounded his every move over the last fifteen years. In 1993, he paid in excess of $15 million-plus to settle a child molestation lawsuit brought by a 13-year-old boy (Jackson maintains his innocence) and today he battles a 12-year-old boy's headline-grabbing accusations that could land him in prison (he calls them a "big lie"). Smaller scandals include Michael's marriages and subsequent divorces from Lisa Marie Presley and Debbie Rowe, the latter of which produced two children (he says she bore them "as a present" to him) whom though difficult to see under their constantly veiled heads, don't look much like dad; his speculated bankruptcy and sale of his Neverland Ranch; his admission to British journalist Martin Bashir that he has "slept in a bed with many children ... It's very right. It's very loving "; and the infamous, November 2002 dangling of his then 11-month-old son (mother unknown) from a hotel balcony. 6. Did she or didn't she. Angelina Jolie recently confirmed rumours that she did indeed steal Brad Pitt from Jennifer Aniston during the filming of Mr and Mrs Smith when the two were still very much married. In a recent interview with an American publication, Jolie remarked that when her children are older they will be able to watch the "movie where their parents fell in love". Jennifer Aniston has retaliated to the claims by remarking that “What Angelina did was very uncool". This is the first time that Jen has publicly spoken of the long speculated affair that rocked the former golden couple. 5. Public condemnation. Ingrid Bergman's impeccable image was shattered in 1949 when she began an affair with married Italian director Roberto Rossellini on the set of "Stromboli". Known as an Oscar-winning actress and devoted wife and mother (she and surgeon Peter Lindstrom had a 10-year-old daughter, Pia), the affair led to severe public condemnation with religious groups calling for the banning of Bergman's films, and a denouncement from the Senate floor that the Swedish born actress was "a powerful influence for evil" (The Senate apologised to Bergman in 1972). The couple wed soon after Bergman gave birth to Rossellini's son (she lost custody of Pia in the divorce) and they produced five more films and twin daughters - Isabella and Ingrid - before separating in 1956. The following year, Hollywood welcomed Bergman back from exile with a Best Actress Oscar win for "Anastasia." 4. Woody Allen Woos Soon-Yi. No-one was laughing when it was uncovered in 1992 that funny-man Woody Allen, then 57, had fallen in love with 21-year-old Soon-Yi Previn, the adopted daughter of his longtime lover and frequent costar Mia Farrow. The custody battle that followed between Allen and Farrow was vicious with Allen claiming Farrow hit Soon-Yi; Farrow, calling Allen "a moral tumbleweed," and accusing him of molesting their adopted daughter Dylan (the allegations were denied and never proven). In the end, Woody's heart got what it wanted: he married Soon-Yi in 1997, and they quietly adopted two children of their own. Domestically, Allen is doing fine, but professionally he's never really been the same.
2. Death of a superstar. Marilyn Monroe personified Hollywood glamour with an unparalleled glow and energy. When the star died suddenly in her home in 1962 from an overdose of sleeping pills it shocked the world and sparked conspiratorial rumours of her involvement with the Kennedy brothers. Much mystery still surrounds her death including speculation that before the initial discovery of her body in her Brentwood home some items were allegedly removed, including a diary and an incriminating note. Interestingly, the order for their removal was believed to have come from someone in the White House in an attempt to prevent a scandal from toppling the presidency of John F. Kennedy. Many witnesses also said they observed Marilyn being secretly taken that night by an ambulance crew to a nearby hospital before being returned again to her Brentwood home in Los Angeles. Forever steeped in mystery are the exact events that took place on the night that one of the world's leading sex symbols and movie legends died. 1. Caught in the act. Who could forget when Hugh Grant was arrested for engaging in a 'lewd' act with hooker Divine Brown in 1995. Best known (at the time) for his role as the stammering, floppy-haired charmer from "Four Weddings and a Funeral" and the devoted beau of Elizabeth Hurley, the now infamous incident exposed Grant to intense media scrutiny. Stiff upper lip in tact, Grant chose to face the issue head on appearing on Jay Leno's Tonight Show where he proclaimed "I did a bad thing, and there you have it". Grant's witty and charming manner provided public ablution and he walked away with two years' probation, a $1,180 fine, Hurley's forgiveness, and a skyrocketing career.
