What's Really Involved in a Creative Business

Learning from etsy store owners

As someone who makes her living through creativity with Creatively Belle and She Inspires I always find meeting other artisans, artists and writers and finding out what is involved in their endeavours fascinating.

Find Creatively Belle jewellery at The Rocks Markets in Sydney and onlineAs an etsy store owner and shopper I constantly find the environment etsy is creating to be intriguing, inspiring and nurturing. So I decided to help celebrate fellow etsy enthusiast and share their work through a series of interviews.

As all small creative businesses will tell you, it's hard getting the word out there about what you're doing. Yes, there is a really vibrant and supportive community who love to shop with us (thank goodness!) but we really don't have the resources behind us to push our work out into the mainstream media, we rely on online communities and social media profiles to connect with each other.

etsy does this really well, actively creating a home for all us who love to make, to paint, to craft, to shape and form something from basically nothing.

I hope you'll be as inspired as I am by the talented and warm hearted makers featured in these interviews, that you're creativity will be sparked and you'll reach out and support those who are being brave and bold and putting their handcrafted creations out there for all to enjoy.

Know an etsy maker who you think should be featured here? Then let me know - looking after each other makes the world of difference! Our etsy interviews are also shared on the She Inspires Twitter and Facebook pages too.

But what is life like as a maker and where do they find inspiration? I caught up with Sydney ceramicist Louise Martiensen to find out.
