Overcoming obstacles – how to get back on track
Can you recall the last time you achieved a goal or something that you had been striving for? Do you remember how that felt - the euphoria and excitement?
The achievement of this goal assisted with an improved self-image and love of one’s self that then enhanced and enriched the lens through which you viewed the world.
We are more than capable of approaching everything that we do with the expectation of finding fun and enjoyment, irrespective of the degree of challenge associated with the task, i.e. if we see things as a problem, that’s what they will be (perspective creates reality). We are capable of setting small goals, and really nailing them (for the small goals will get you to the larger objective).”
This stress can be debilitating (distress) or it can be exhilarating (eustress). How we look at it has much to do to how we react to it. As we perceive, so do we experience.
Changing Our Experience
To change our experience of anything, we must challenge our perspective or how we look at it. In other words, how we think about it. For example, rather than perceive a situation as a crisis, we can view it as a challenge.
Rather than perceive something as a problem, we can perceive it as an opportunity. Rather than perceive someone as a bad person, we could perceive them as a fellow human-being (with the same foibles and limitations that we have).
There are many ways to enhance the way we think, merely by asking the question: Does this thought serve me well?
One way to realign the consequences of stressful situations is to change the way we think about them, to alter our perspective of the situation or person that causes us to feel stress. In other words we make a paradigm shift in how we think about it.
